Presentation of the TASS Wertpapierhandelsbank with the focus market data quality

Carsten Ringler outlines in his speech the relevance of high quality market data for the valuation process in financial institutions. He gives an overview of the credit spreads before and during the financial crisis and about possible influencing factors in the future. Based on practical examples, Mr. Ringler explains the relevance of market-driven prices for risk management. He outlines the basic requirements for the introduction of a sampling point-based market risk model on the bond or index level.

Financial institutes are being confronted with an exponentially rising amount of data, for example through the growing complexity of particular financial instruments, increasing numbers of transactions as well as the results of MiFID requirements.

Since the MiFID Financial Market Directive has taken effect, internal departments are required to evaluate a multitude of electronic live data and historical data from trade systems or market data portals and store them for verification purposes.

Such centralized databank and market data management systems are generally subject to numerous company-specific standards, in reference to the processing of market data as well as the integration in the individual IT infrastructure.

A reliable market data management offers a sound foundation for the market analysis or risk analysis. The data foundation can also be used for continuative methods, for example the calculation of different parameters (value at risk, implicit volatilities).

As a result of globalization a fragmentation amongst worldwide vendors has occurred. The price-performance ratio of the market data suppliers is becoming a challenge for internal procurement and license management departments. Many financial institutions have closed as a result of the financial crisis complete branches or restructured departments, often with significant influences on the supply with market data or the cost and contract structures with market data vendors.

The second marcus evans Annual Conference presents solutions for the market data management in financial institutions.
